Copper Mountain Consolidated Metro District Cable and Internet
Metro district officials signed a three-year contract with ResortInternet, a company based out of Denver, to install high-speed Internet throughout the resort's village.
The service will use Copper Mountains cable television infrastructure and should be available to homeowners and businesses by Dec. 1, 2004, said Eric Geis, president of ResortInternet.
Subscribers must purchase a cable modem from ResortInternet - specific to the Copper system - to access the high-speed Internet service. The cable modem costs $72.00 and will prevent people from poaching the system, Geis said.
ResortInternet offers two installation options to its Internet customers. Self-installation is available only for those who subscribe to the basic service, and will cost $25.00. Professional installation is required for those opting for premium services and costs $60.00.
Officials expect to recuperate the approximately $42,000 installation costs within the first several years. Copper Mountain’s high-speed installation is ResortInternet's first village project.
Copper's Internet customers are able to choose between four different levels of service: the Standard Package, offering 1 Mbps, will cost $24.00 per month; Enhanced Package includes basic service plus five email addresses and 25 Mb of Web-hosting disk space for $32.00 per month; Telecommuter Package includes service at the Enhanced level and allows streaming audio/video, teleconferencing, file sharing applications or IP telephony for 50.00 per month. The Premium Package offers a 1.5 Mbps connection with 10 email addresses and 25 Mb of Web-hosting disk space for $105.00 per month.
The service also includes a 24-hours-per-day, seven-day-a-week help desk for users, with a technician based in Summit County. The tech support number is 1-877-208-4141.
The Copper Metro District receives a small commission for the service. They estimated about 400 users will subscribe this winter, which would generate about $24,000 a year.
ResortInternet said they started by installing one T-1 line, but will provide an additional T-1 line for each 400 subscribers.
Interested customers can access the subscription form at ResortInternet's Web site at www.resortinternet.com.
