Copper Mountain Fire Department’s training division is dedicated to teaching new techniques and technology in a safe manor in all areas of emergency service. Firefighter training is conducted monthly with all Summit County fire departments at the High Country Training Center and also daily at the Copper Mountain Fire station. This gives all CMFD members the opportunity to learn and put to use new and old practical skills essential to the job.
CMFD also offers the opportunity to attend college courses and outside specialized trainings. It is the training division’s goal to have all members with a college level education. CMFD sponsors members attending courses for degrees in fire science, but higher education of any type is encouraged.
In conjunction with St. Anthony’s Hospital medical trainings are held on the third Thursday of each month at the Copper Fire Station. Medical trainings offer continuing education for CPR, first responders, EMT-basic, EMT-intermediate, and EMT-paramedic. Since medical calls are the majority of our response CMFD members are expected to excel in medical treatment and stay up to date with new procedures and techniques.
CMFD also trains its members in “specialized incidents” such as HAZMAT, confined space rescue, technical rope rescue, vehicle extrication, wild land firefighting, and fire prevention. All members of CMFD are trained to handle a wide variety of incidents due to our mutual aid from neighboring communities is about 15 minutes away.
